Not made to last :/

Not made to last :/
Lasted 3 years and the water hoses rotted off, flooded the counter. Disappointed that what is otherwise a great coffee maker is designed to fail so soon. What did they save by using cheap hose half a penny per unit? Come on people, let’s start making things that last. Pathetic.

    Separate Water Reservoir a Must!
I just received this coffee pot yesterday, cleaned it out, ran it through a few empty cycles and ready to use it today. I got the gold reusable filter basket as well. I noticed a few small metal bits in my Gold Tone filter after running the first cycle of plain water - so I do recommend that you run this through a few cycles before using it for coffee - just to clean everything out from manufacturing. I brewed a few pots of coffee for the family today on Bold, used fresh ground coffee from Costco (I only use whole bean and grind what I need for coffee each day) and the result was perfect! Works great, great coffee, plenty hot and no issues.

Noise - some mention that there is noise as the cycle finishes - ok so theres is a little - not no more than when my Cuisinart finished. My Cuisinart made a beep when it was done - annoying! But this one just has a little extra steam and noise when it finishes the last drop of water - great to know when the coffee is ready! So to me this is fine and expected.

Separate Water Reservoir - to me this is a MUST. That was a requirement in finding a new coffee pot. This one works great - comes out easy, easy to fill and most important - I can clean it when I want. Also has no issues with any spilled water -works perfect! The issue with coffee pots that have a fixed water reservoir - you can't effectively clean them at all! I never noticed this until recently. My kids broke my glass pot from my 8 year old Cuisinart DCC-1200 so I was just going to buy a new one. BUT - then I happened to look inside my water reservoir and WOW was that disgusting - we use vinegar to clean it regularly but if you never looked in your reservoir - you don't realize how gross it can get over time. Take your SmartPhone Flash Light and shine it in there and look - you will be shocked at how bad it gets in there. The Cusisinart's water tank is wrapped around the whole unit - so trying to clean it is impossible - I tried - there are places you just can't get to - so in the garbage with it!!!! I will never buy a coffee pot without a Separate Water Reservoir that can very easily be cleaned. Sorry for the rant - but this is important for those of us that are OCD about stuff like this!

The one negative I have is the Coffee Glass Pot - it has a plastic ring around the top of the glass that is glued on - so getting the last bit of water out is difficult as others have mentioned and keeping it clean - under the plastic ring will be more difficult but it's minor - I can live with this - but wish it was just glass at the top! It is dishwasher safe and so are the coffee filter and filter holder. The only thing you can't put in the dishwasher is the Separate Water Reservoir - you need to hand clean this - no problem. I typically will do this one a month as needed. Anything that holds water over time gets a slimy film on it - so it's good to keep it clean!

Use - the coffee pot is easy to use - easy to turn with plastic wheels on bottom to add water - or simply open the top of the Separate Water Reservoir and poor in without removing - but I have cabinets overhead - so the turn and remove to fill works better for me.

Overall - for the money - this is a great coffee pot so far. If I have any issues - I will update my post!

I have finally found a coffee maker that makes coffee the way I like it and brings back memories of my favorite coffee maker, the Braun KF180 FlavorSelect. Braun decided not to make the coffee maker that I would still be using, today, but Hamilton Beach has created a suitable replacement that may even go the KF180 one better in a few of the convenience areas.

I make my coffee in an open area on a peninsula, so I don't really need the removable water reservoir... I just bring my pitcher of filtered water to the dance, direct from it's location. The brew strength selector is SO much easier than my last $90 coffee maker that required all sorts of soft menus on a tiny and very dim screen... pressing the mode button six times and so on. Never could keep that one straight, so I never cried when it recently failed about a year or so after purchase.

This carafe pour spout has so far not dribbled a drop of coffee down the side of the carafe or on my counter top, like the $90 model did in abundance. Finally, a clean coffee area... well, relatively clean.

Even before I tried both normal size brew strength settings I could tell that the bold setting was selected to bring out the flavor of my Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee. The "keep warm" setting is likewise very easy to adjust, with stupid proof graphic interface to show you the settings.

The clock in the digital screen is as easy to set as the one in my 2000 model pickup truck (hour and minute buttons), and it can be seen very easily when I first enter the kitchen in bright blue numbers. I don't really need a clock on my coffee pot, but I just hate seeing a flashing 1200, or the wrong time on a clock. On this machine, this task is easy.

The bottom of the coffee maker has a base that easily rotates on my counter, to make adding water very easy from the side of the reservoir. The basket style coffee filter holder is easy to remove and take to a location so I can pour the ground coffee from the grinder catch container and avoid the potential of grounds going places I don't want them, in the maker itself.

The first pot I brewed, I immediately dropped a thermometer in the drip hole and pulled it out... when it went just past 180, after the brewing was done... that is my favorite carafe temp, which is very different from the temperature of extraction for those who consider 200 degrees in the carafe as perfection. That means at least some of the water was most likely past the boiling point when it hit the grounds. That removes some of the more volatile flavor notes that I have come to appreciate. I don't pay for EY coffee beans just to ruin the flavor during brewing.

The carafe is easily moved to and from it's perch in the machine, even when filled with coffee, which was not the case with my now expired $90 coffee maker.

Finally summing up... this little $45 beauty ranks right beside my previous and more expensive favorite, but now extinct coffee maker, and well above the next in line. If this one lasts a decent amount of time and isn't replaced by Hamilton Beach with a piece of junk, it could be my favorite of all time. I called this a first impression review, so if longevity becomes a problem, I will be back to set that record straight, if I can overcome the depression of my loss long enough to post again. Coffee makers are very personal, and important to people who love their coffee. That's me.
